Hi and welcome to Coeur Movement!

I’m Cara Kjellman, a movement specialist and the owner of Coeur Movement.

I have always been very active. I started taking dance lessons at three years of age and continued to dance throughout my adolescence, college, and eventually a 16-year performing career, most of it on Broadway. My body has always been my true voice. I feel most comfortable in motion. However, my movement journey hasn’t always been easy. I have had numerous injuries throughout my career and battled several health issues. Through it all, Pilates has been a constant. It has helped me to heal, growing stronger and more confident. Yet, while Pilates has been a very large part of my journey, it isn’t the whole story.

Throughout my various injuries, a few that led to surgery, I have had the good fortune to work with some of the best physical therapists in New York City and around the world. I have studied dance with great artists of all disciplines. I have also continued my education of the body, learning about its anatomy and how it functions from some of the brightest minds in the field. All of these experiences have helped me to develop a holistic approach to healing and strengthening the body through movement.

As Joseph Pilates said, “Movement heals.”

That is why I chose to name my practice Coeur Movement.

About Cara

Now, you may wonder why I chose “Coeur.” If you don’t know, it is the French word for “heart”. When pronounced it sounds very much like “core.” Yes, a strong core is the focus of Pilates. It is essential to building a resilient body. Yet so is the “coeur.”

Both my client’s heart and my own must be truly invested in the movement for the work to be successful. Each session is dedicated to meeting the body where it is at and guiding it forward toward more strength and ease. I have been fortunate enough to learn so much on my journey. It is my desire to be able to share all of my knowledge with others.

Whether that be through Pilates, injury rehabilitation, pelvic floor work or movement training, the goal remains the same. The body needs to function optimally and with ease, and movement - Coeur Movement - can help it do just that.

Whether you are new to Pilates or already a devotee practicing at an advanced level, a session with the highly sought-after Pilates trainer Cara Kjellman will make you feel wonderful! As a professional actor, dancer and singer Cara has performed on Broadway, TV and film and has been practicing Pilates for 26 years.

Pilates has given her a strong foundation upon which she has built and sustained her career and has been a defining force in her rehabilitation from several injuries. She received her certification from Power Pilates and has been teaching for the past ten years. Cara’s holistic understanding of the body and its symphony of movement as well as her kind and understanding demeanor will make this a Pilates session that meets you where you are and takes you to the next level of practice. You haven’t really recruited your core until you’ve recruited it with Cara
